Curiosity as a Practice — Exploring Disability-Inclusive Yoga

There’s a moment in every teacher’s journey when routine begins to feel… familiar. Comfortable. Predictable. And while there’s value in steadiness, yoga also invites us into something deeper: curiosity.

What if curiosity became part of your teaching practice?

Disability-inclusive yoga begins there—not with perfection, but with a willingness to ask questions. Who is not in my room? Who might not feel welcome here yet? What assumptions am I making about bodies, abilities, or what yoga “should” look like?

For studio owners and teachers, stepping into inclusive yoga can feel intimidating. You might worry about saying the wrong thing, offering the wrong variation, or not knowing enough.

But inclusion isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about being open to learning.

Start small. Explore adaptive poses. Learn about different access needs. Invite feedback. Notice your language—does it assume everyone can stand, balance, or see? Are there ways to offer choice rather than a single “ideal” shape?

Curiosity softens fear. It shifts the mindset from “I have to get this right” to “I’m here to grow.”

And here’s the beautiful part: when you begin designing classes with accessibility in mind, you don’t just support people with disabilities—you create a richer, more welcoming experience for everyone.

Your teaching becomes more intentional. More creative. More human.

So stay curious. Let your teaching expand. There’s a whole community waiting to feel more welcome—and your openness could be the doorway.
